Help Support Haitian Earthquake Relief

UPDATE 2/5/10: CUSTOMERS & STAFF RAISED $2500 FOR MISSION HARVEST AMERICA TO HELP HAITI!

On Tuesday, January 12th,  a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake destroyed much of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. It is estimated that 3 million people were affected by the earthquake, but the full extent of damage is still unknown. Immediate needs are money, food, water, temporary shelter, medical services and emotional support.

HOW TO HELP
We have set up cash donation boxes at every register of our two Jacksonville locations (Southside – 11030 Baymeadows Road, Mandarin – 10000 San Jose Blvd), or if you’re paying with credit/debit you can ask your cashier to add a $1 or $5 donation to your total. All donations will go to Mission Harvest America, a Jacksonville-based non-profit committed to providing Humanitarian Aid donations that was recommended to us by the NEFL Red Cross.

Three local farmer’s markets have also partnered with Mission Harvest America to serve as collection points THIS WEEKEND for food and medical supplies which will be airlifted to Haiti as soon as early next week.
 
Needed items include:
Dry food
Bags of rice or beans
Powdered milk  
Money 
Flashlights and batteries
Disposable BBQ grills
Sanitizing wipes
Toiletries
FOOD – MOST NEEDED, canned, no box food
Canned meats or fish
Over the counter medical supplies and first aid items
Camping tents
Portable Generators
Portable Lights
Clothes, Mostly for children
Shoes, No high heels or boots please

ORANGE PARK FARMERS AND ARTS MARKET
Located at the Orange Park Mall on the SEARS parking lot facing Blanding Blvd.
Open this Saturday from 10am to 2pm

FLEMING ISLAND FARMERS AND ARTS MARKET
Located at the corner of US 17 Highway and Village Square Parkway
Open this Saturday from 10am to 2pm

MANDARIN FARMERS AND ARTS MARKET
Located North of I-295 on San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin
Open this SUNDAY from Noon to 4pm
 
For more information about donations and supplies please call Mission Harvest America at 356-9006 or 356-4819. Volunteers are also needed to help pack the donated  items for shipment to Haiti.
