Earth Day the Native Way!

April 22, 2010 marks the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and we are celebrating all month long! Join us!

SATURDAY, APRIL 10

Local Raw Food Sampling from Shakti Life Kitchen, 11am – 3pm @ Baymeadows Stop by the Shakti table for free samples of local raw foods including Goddess burgers, flax crackers, chipotle cheese, kale chips, pad Thai, raw fudge and more.

Sierra Club Education Table, 11am – 3pm @ Baymeadows Learn more about exploring, enjoying & protecting the planet by becoming a part of your local Sierra Club.

Springfield Community Garden Education Table, 11am – 3pm @ Mandarin The Springfield Community Garden, located at 1425 N Laura St. in Downtown Jacksonville, is our GreenApples Charity of the Month. The Garden was started in the spring of 2009 by local community members who live in Springfield and wanted to grow their own food and have more control over where their food came from. Duval County Extension Office Plant Clinic Table, 11am– 3pm @ Mandarin Stop by the Duval County’s Extension Office table to pick up materials about plants, lawn care and other springtime environment topics.

SATURDAY, APRIL 17

Native & Uncommon Plant Sale, 11am – 3pm @ Baymeadows This Ortega-area nursery offers a variety of plants which help gardeners restore local habitats by using eco-friendly species. They also offer advice to get the right plant in the right place. Stop by their tent to purchase and take home some native and uncommon plants for your garden at home.

Bold City Brewery Local Beer Sampling, 11am – 3pm @ Baymeadows The master brewers from Riverside’s Bold City Brewery will be passing out samples of Mad Manatee IPA.

Cowboy Farms Local Beef BBQ, 11am – 3pm @ Mandarin Stop by the Cowboy Farms tent to enjoy FREE local, all-natural beef sliders and homemade beef chili.

Greenscape of Jacksonville – Meet Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! 1:30pm – 3pm @ Mandarin Greenscape of Jacksonville will be stopping by with Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! from Nick, Jr. Visit their table to get a picture with Wubbzy and learn about how you can help the environment.

TUESDAY, APRIL 20

Sierra Nevada Beer Dinner, 6:30pm @ Baymeadows Enjoy an all-natural and organic five-course meal paired with refreshing Sierra Nevada brews. A Sierra Nevada representative will be on-hand to talk about their “green” brewery and beer. Must be 21 and up to participate. Seating is limited. Tickets are $40 per person. THURSDAY, APRIL 22 – Happy Earth Day!

Native Sun Presents a FREE Screening of “No Impact Man” 8pm @ UNF Bldg 15, Rm 1304 Native Sun Natural Foods Market presents a FREE screening of the movie “No Impact Man” about author Colin Beavan’s year-long quest to create virtually no impact on the environment.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28

FREE Lecture on Low Maintenance Landscaping, 8pm @ Baymeadows Barbara Jackson, Master Gardener and President of the Florida Native Plant Society, will talk about native plants, water conservation and principles of low maintenance landscaping. She will also show before and after landscaping projects.
