April GreenApples Charity: Springfield Garden

The Springfield Community Garden at 1425 N Laura St. in Downtown Jacksonville was started in the Spring of 2009 by local community members who live in Springfield and wanted to grow their own food and have more control over where their food came from. Plots are $35 each, workshops are held at 1pm on the 3rd Saturday of every month and a Growing Kids Summer Gardening Program will start this year to teach children ages 5-12 about gardening and healthy eating. Each child will be given their own small plot to tend and the 8-week program will focus on basic gardening knowledge.

Amanda Serle with the Springfield Garden will be at our Baymeadows store this Saturday from 11am – 3pm to talk about their projects and upcoming events. Donations are needed to finish the following: front patio, front sidewalk, herb & hydro-ponic beds, back fence, shed, and more. Thank you in advance for your support!

Get updates on the community garden at www.myspringfield.org. They also put out a bi-monthly newsletter, Sustainable Springfield, email avsearle@gmail.com to be added to the mailing list.
