We normally feature only local charities, but we hope you’ll agree that helping our local waters recover from the BP Oil Spill helps us all.
There are only seven species of sea turtles worldwide, and five of them live in the Gulf. As of June 23, over 400 sea turtles have died due to the Oil Spill.
Audubon Nature Institute needs your support to ensure they can rescue, rehabilitate and successfully release stranded and injured animals, mainly endangered sea turtles and marine mammals along Louisiana’s coast. The rescue and rehabilitation of each sea turtle is estimated at $5,000 for equipment, supplies, medication and veterinary staff time—and it is unknown how long they will need to be cared for before they can return to the wild.
