Native Sun Natural Foods Market is the recipient of a Natural Product Association’s 2010 Socially Responsible Retailer Award. This award recognizes NPA member companies that excel in integrating social responsibility in multiple aspects of their business including volunteerism, education, employee empowerment, environment and health. Other 2010 winners include Central Co-op’s Madison Market Natural Foods in Seattle, Washington, and MOM’s Organic Market, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland.
“This award means so much coming from our industry and peers. As a company, we have always valued our community and employees – they are the reason we opened our store in 1997 and the reason we are still open today. They care as much about the environment and their health as we do, which makes or job fun,” said Aaron Gottlieb, Owner of Native Sun Natural Foods Market.
Program efforts included the grocer’s Treecycle reusable bag program, free community events, weekly donations to the local food bank, local donations per customer requests and a Charity of the Month program. In total, Native Sun’s GreenApples Program has donated over $27,250 in goods and services since August 2008.
Criteria for the Socially Responsible Retailer Award may include:
