Vermillion Snapper at Native Sun

Support the local fishing industry with an affordable, sustainable product that makes its way to market via a reduced carbon footprint!

The Vermillion Snapper (Bee-Liner Snapper) season officially opened on January 1st 2012.  The quota for Vermillion harvest has been reduced this year to under half a million pounds gutted weight. While unfavorable to local fishing industries, conservationists and environmentalists welcome the quota reduction as a means of demonstrating the growing sustainability of the South Atlantic Snapper fisheries.

Vermillion Snapper contains a moderate to low concentration of mercury when compared to canned Albacore Tuna and Swordfish. Although typically between ten and eighteen inches in length and weighing anywhere from one to three pounds, Vermillion Snapper can reach lengths of up to twenty-four inches and weights of nearly four pounds. Low in saturated fat and sodium, with a soft, flaky flesh that provides essential fatty acids and protein, Vermillion Snapper closely resembles Red Snapper. We offer scaled, skin-on fillets for $14.99/lb and whole fish for $7.49/lb that are delicious when baked, broiled, fried, poached or grilled.  If you have any further inquiries please visit the friendly staff of the Native Sun Baymeadows Meat/Seafood Dept.

Fresh Turmeric Root Now Available at Native Sun Baymeadows!

The other day, our Baymeadows produce manager poked her head in the door to let me know that we had just received a shipment of turmeric root and she wanted to get the word out because we don’t get it in stock all that often. I wasn’t sure if I had eaten turmeric before, but I was positive that I had never seen it. In order to remedy this situation, we decided to grab some turmeric and set up a photo shoot. As you can see from the picture above, there are certainly more visually appealing foods, but since turmeric is a root, I’m going to forgive its gnarled appearance and focus on its health benefits.

So, what’s so great about turmeric? Well, curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that could be beneficial in the treatment of the following diseases and conditions*:

  • Heart Disease
  • Cancer
  • Chronic Pain and Arthritis
  • Diabetes
  • Depression, Dementia, and other Brain Disorders
  • Digestive Disorders
  • Obesity, Multiple Sclerosis, and Immune System Compromises

In the kitchen, turmeric typically makes itself at home in curries and other Indian style dishes, but works well with all kinds of flavors. If you’re interested in spicing up some of your favorite dishes or trying out some new recipes, swing by Native Sun Baymeadows and pick up some fresh turmeric!

Note: Fresh Turmeric subject to availability. Priced at $12.99/lb.

*This information is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease. Please visit our Nutrition Department with any questions you might have about curcumin and its potential health benefits.

Upcoming Lecture with David Gerhardt of King Bio: 8pm October 4, 2011 @ Baymeadows Store

For those customers and staff who attended David Gerhardt’s lecture on Homeopathy at our Mandarin store in June, the evening provided insight into the potential healing power of homeopathy. Gerhardt explained the importance of homeopathic remedies formulated with multiple potencies that allow the chosen remedy to work effectively in the treatment of acute, chronic, and deep health conditions. According to Gerhardt, when multiple potencies are included in the same remedy, the body selects the appropriate dosage and dilution needed to create change and speed the healing process.

As the evening and lecture progressed, Gerhardt invited those in attendance to walk with him to the King Bio section of our Nutrition Department, where he further discussed the products in relation to individual health needs. Overall, customer participation and response was enthusiastic! It was great to see people genuinely excited about the healing potential of King Bio products and we couldn’t be more excited for David Gerhardt to visit Native Sun Baymeadows on October 4, 2011 at 8pm for another lecture!

We hope that you will join us for a great evening of learning and discussion. Sign up sheets are available in the nutrition department of either store.

Note: King Bio products are available in the Nutrition Departments at both of our stores. Stop in with any questions, concerns or comments and be sure to check our sales flyer and blog for updates on King Bio products!

Check out the new “King” of Homeopathic Remedies at Native Sun!

At Native Sun we recently introduced the King Bio line, “an FDA registered pharmaceutical company dedicated to the quality manufacture of safe, fast-acting, homeopathic medicines” and treatments (King Bio 10). King Bio formulates natural medicines “designed to work powerfully at every level of life” as they restore, activate, and strengthen our “internal mechanisms” and “inner constitution” to promote healing (14).

In terms of formulation, King Bio products make use of a unique pure water base, making them the “only company manufacturing homeopathic [products] without [the] sugar, alcohol, or glycerin,” typically found in other homeopathics (14). Aside from being sugar, alcohol, and glycerin free, King Bio products contain “three equal volume potencies (or strengths) of each ingredient” to encourage a balanced response and a “higher percentage of actual cures” when compared to single, lower potency concentrations (15). The convenient spray pump makes delivery effortless while allowing you to introduce the product orally, topically, and through olfactory dosages that can encourage healing both internally and externally (17).

If you’re looking for the latest in homeopathic formulation, look no further than King Bio!

Sally Byrd will be at Native Sun Natural Foods Market’s Baymeadows location at 11030 Baymeadows Road on Tuesday, May 17 at 8pm to give a FREE lecture “Collagen’s Role in Anti-Aging.”

A fibrous structural protein that occurs naturally in bones, connective tissues, and skin, collagen protects joints, ligaments, and tendons while aiding in the renewal of all cells within the body. As we age, the collagen in our bodies begins to break down, aging our cells, reducing the elasticity of the skin, and creating wrinkles. Join us as we explore the potential benefits of collagen supplementation, learning how collagen can help rejuvenate the skin and redefine the aging process!

Sally Byrd is a board certified and registered traditional naturo-path and author who currently works as the Director of Sales, Education and Formulation for Dr. Venessa’s Formulas™.
